Call for Website Resource Submissions

Date:  November 25, 2009

To:   APA Divisions

From:  The 2010 APA Presidential Task
Force on Advancing Practice

Re:     Call for
Website Resource Submissions Related to the Practice of Psychology

APA’s President-Elect, Carol D. Goodheart,
Ed.D., has formed the Presidential Task Force on Advancing Practice
(APTF), chaired by Karen M. Zager, Ph.D.  An essential part of
our mission is to develop innovative methods for psychologists to find
and share clinical information and practice management tools, by creating
and organizing web-based resources that will be available as a value-added
benefit for APA members.  An exciting “Wiki” platform will
be piloted with members during 2010 and the task force is in the process
of “seeding” the Wiki with materials of direct relevance and immediate
practical use for clinicians in diverse spheres of practice.  We
hope that APA members, Divisions, STPAs and other organizations will
be key sources of this material. Our vision is that these materials
will be:

  • In many different formats
(e.g., webinars, downloadable files and materials, web-links, etc.).
  • Directly usable by clinicians
in their offices with/ for their patients
  • Easily searchable and linked
to Practice Central (the new APAPO website)

At the outset of this endeavor we are
specifically seeking materials that can be cataloged under two categories:

  • Practice Management
  • Health and Mental Health
    Conditions

We expect that in the future we will
collect information that fits other categories as well, such as, Treatment
Guidelines and Evidence Based Practice; Resources for Collaborative
Relationships with Other Professionals; Resources for Consumers; and
Professional Credentialing, Mentoring and Networking.  If you have
resources that you believe are very valuable but do not fit the first
two categories, once the Wiki pilot commences, additional resources
can be directly posted to that platform.  The Task Force is very
interested in learning about the breadth of available resources and
intends to include as many as possible.

For now, we are asking you to submit
information specifically related to any of the following subcategories:

Practice Management Health and Mental health Conditions
Compliance and record
keeping
Emotional regulation/Mixed depression
and anxiety
Do’s and don’ts
of operating an independent practice
Post-traumatic stress disorder
How to communicate
and collaborate with health care providers
End of life issues
Use of technology
in solo or small group practice
Attention deficit disorders
Navigating insurance
and managed care issues
Pregnancy loss and perinatal depression
Ethics Breast cancer
Business of practice Diabetes

Obesity

Conduct disorders in children

Outcomes

All submitted materials will be reviewed
and considered for inclusion in the pilot Wiki.  By submitting
materials, you certify that the Division or SPTA owns these materials
and can disseminate them in this fashion; additionally, you give the
Task Force and APA the non-exclusive right to use these materials online
and in print.  The Task Force and associated staff will work with
the submitter during the review process.

Please use the template at http://apacustomout.apa.org/PsycLink/default.aspx to submit appropriate resources for consideration.
Resources can be in the form of PowerPoint presentations, documents,
articles, books, pamphlets, spreadsheets, website links, etc.
Please submit all resources by February 1, 2010 but earlier
submissions are encouraged.

Thank you for your consideration and
anticipated contributions. We look forward to hearing from you in the
near future as we intend to have this pilot Wiki in active use in Spring
2010 with a report provided at the August APA convention.

Lastly, all content contributors will
be invited to participate in the pilot Wiki.  The pilot phase will
be a “closed” community but the Task Force hopes to have a large
number of participants representing the full breadth of psychology practice.

Respectfully,

Karen Zager, Ph.D. Chair,
